Make Money Selling Other People’s Products

The concept of revenue sharing (splitting profits and losses among partners or groups) has been around for ages in the brick and mortar world…..long before the World Wide Web evolved and introduced online marketing, changing our lives forever. Affiliate Marketing, a tried, trusted, and beneficial way of making money online, is basically a revenue sharing system. An affiliate is paid a commission from a merchant, based on how many sales the affiliate generates through advertising and promoting the merchant’s products.

Affiliate marketing began just four years after the World Wide Web was launched, and this simple yet effective method has taken revenue sharing on the internet to new levels, having become a staple form of online business for all types of e-commerce.

More people every day are launching online businesses, many simply to supplement their current income, and others as the source of their primary income so they can either leave a low-paying job they dislike, or because they have lost their job. But most of us already know those reasons….so why else? Because online marketing just provides so many benefits!

First, by marketing your products online it is possible to reach just about everybody in the world who has internet access. That means a broader market for you, which can result in huge commissions. Second, you can start up an online business for only a fraction of the cost of setting up an actual bricks and mortar business establishment….which translates into a tremendous savings for you, the business owner.

Another attractive aspect of online marketing is the fact that you don’t need your own products….ever, if you don’t want to. With online marketing you can make serious money by selling, or even by just trying to sell, other people’s products. And it’s also quite easy to do! You simply find the online retailers or merchants who offer an affiliate program, sign up for their program (nearly always at no charge), then immediately begin promoting the merchant’s products to earn a commission.

Another, perhaps easier option, is to join one of the affiliate networks, a network which hosts affiliate programs for various online merchants.

You will usually be required to complete a form providing information about yourself and your business. While not all affiliate programs require that you have a website, some companies will request your URL and a description of your website’s contents, or they will take a look at your website or landing page to see that you’re a legitimate business with products relevant to their business. In an affiliate network, you are allowed to choose which affiliate programs in their arsenal that you wish to promote.

In most established affiliate marketing programs, the merchant provides you with banners, text ads, and product information to use in marketing, promoting, and linking to your site.

An excellent guide to learning how to pick the best affiliate programs and save time, money and effort on everything from affiliate software to web hosting is The Super Affiliate Handbook, by Rosalind Gardner. In her down-to-earth, sincere and often humorous style, she takes you step-by-step through the entire process of building an affiliate marketing business on the ‘Net. It will get you started in the right direction, providing an overview of the affiliate marketing business.
